the past two days have approached the mid-nineties, a rarity for northern new england. today, the unwavering heat was broken by a steady, strong fall of rain. it lasted for a good hour, curling into rivulets down the windows, opened wide to trade the hot, stale air for the sweet coolness of the outside atmosphere.

"The smell of the earth after a rain."
